about

Another one from the apple harvest. Started it on a rainy day where we couldn't pick; finished it late on the last night of that season, at the foot of the bed where my partner was sleeping. There was no alcohol allowed during the season - the line about getting drunk must've been a memory, or a wish at the time.

lyrics

Fisher, sing me a tune
It was raining all afternoon
So I got drunk, I got sober again
And I washed out the child I'd been

So may we all make it home
Well home is a word I don't know
Like a book with its pages unturned
I think home is a place that we earn

Time's an anvil
And joy the dust
I've been wondering
Who can I trust?

He spoke her name like a prayer
It was almost as if she were there
In the sheets of his unmade bed
In the blood that rushed to his head

Thunder and lightning above
Oh, what shall we do with this love?
That grabbed us and coursed down our spines
Now it's the only thing that keeps us alive

Time's an anvil
And joy the dust
I've been wondering
Who can I trust?
Time's an anvil
And joy the spark
Can you guide us
Out of this dark?

Breathing so warm and so deep
There's a valley you go when you sleep
I've been there, I know what it's like
So just hold me and we'll go there tonight
